History

The Friends of McFarland Parks is a 501(c)(3) organization formed in 2006 to help promote, maintain and improve the parks in McFarland, WI. The group originated to help replace playground equipment at numerous parks in 2007-2008. During that timeframe, it also helped build the Discovery Park at the E.D. Locke Library and raised funds for the acquisition of the Schuetz property, now known as Orchard Hill Park. After the playgrounds, the organization helped raise money for McFarland's dog park and the repair of the hockey rink at Lewis Park. Each year, the Friends of McFarland's Park participates in Wisconsin's birdathon, and helped raise money to install the spotting scope at Lewis Park overlooking Lower Mud Lake. Individual members of the group have helped to remove invasive species from Marshwoods Park and replant native prairie. The organization works closely with the Village of McFarland and is continually looking for opportunities to support the maintenance of existing parks and future outdoor space through fundraising and other recreational enhancement opportunities.
